Cayla is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate and a National Certified Counselor. She has a dual-bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Criminal Justice from Ferrum College (2021) and a M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from UNC-Greensboro (2023). Cayla also earned a Postbaccalaureate certificate in Counseling Children and Adolescences from UNC-Greensboro (2023).
Cayla has experience working with children, teens, and adults. She has worked with individuals presenting with ADHD, anxiety, behavior problems, trauma, depression, domestic violence, eating disorders, family problems, relationship concerns, stress, substance abuse, PTSD, and court-ordered youth. Cayla provides Child-Centered play therapy for youth between the ages of 3 and 10. Cayla also has extensive training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) as well as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) to assist children and teens who have experienced intense trauma. Additionally, she has experience leading teen Seeking Safety groups for youth struggling with substance abuse and trauma.
Cayla works through a trauma-informed lens by emphasizing the client-counselor relationship and working towards this as a counselor through unconditional positive regard, empathy, authenticity, and client empowerment. She incorporates a combination of person-centered theory, DBT, and CBT skills and concepts along with constant collaboration and feedback to meet individual client needs.
