Laura Brotherton, MA, LCMHCS, RPT

Laura Brotherton is the Founder and Executive Director of Kernersville Counseling Center, PLLC, where she is dedicated to providing exceptional, evidence-based mental health care while cultivating a collaborative and supportive environment for both clients and clinicians. Since founding the practice, Laura has been passionate about expanding access to high-quality mental health services and developing a team of compassionate, highly skilled therapists who share her commitment to clinical excellence.

Laura is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor (LCMHCS) and Registered Play Therapist (RPT) with advanced training in several evidence-based treatment approaches, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with Exposure and Response Prevention (CBT/ERP) for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). She earned her Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2013 and completed her play therapy training through the Multicultural Play Therapy Center at UNC Charlotte.

Laura works with children, adolescents, and adults experiencing a wide range of emotional, behavioral, and mental health concerns. While she enjoys treating many different presenting issues, she has particular clinical interests in Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), anxiety disorders, trauma, child and family therapy, and parent coaching. She is passionate about helping families reduce conflict, strengthen relationships, and create more peaceful home environments by equipping parents with practical skills and helping children build emotional resilience through play therapy.

Known for her warm, approachable style, Laura strives to create a therapeutic environment where clients feel safe, respected, and genuinely understood. She believes that healing occurs within strong therapeutic relationships and considers it a privilege to walk alongside individuals and families during some of life's most challenging seasons. Her approach integrates compassion with practical, evidence-based interventions to help clients achieve meaningful, lasting change.

In addition to her clinical work, Laura provides supervision and mentorship to associate-level clinicians as they develop into confident, ethical, and effective mental health professionals. She is passionate about investing in the next generation of counselors and promoting excellence within the profession.

Laura also serves on the Board of Directors for the Greater Hope Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing awareness of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, reducing barriers to effective treatment, and expanding access to specialized OCD care. Through her leadership, clinical practice, and community involvement, she remains committed to advancing the quality, accessibility, and impact of mental health services throughout North Carolina.

When Laura isn't working, she enjoys spending time with her family and being around horses.
