Sarah is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate through the North Carolina Board of Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselors. She received her bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University in Psychology with minors in Arabic and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. She went on to receive her master’s degree in clinical Mental Health Counseling from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
She has clinical experience working with individuals of all ages, from early childhood to later adulthood in the areas of anxiety, depression, behavioral concerns, ADHD, trauma, career counseling, LGBTQ+ concerns, grief/loss counseling, relationship concerns, self-harm and thoughts of hurting oneself, and anger management. She also has additional training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), which she uses both with individuals and in a group DBT setting. She emphasizes forming a strong therapeutic relationship with each client regardless of background, values, and identities in order to create a safe, accepting, and non-judgmental environment.
Sarah operates from a Person-Centered approach, believing that the client is the expert in their own life. As the counselor, she will act as a support as the client works toward their goals and empower the client to make their own decisions. Sarah also pulls from other evidence-based theories such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing. When working with children, Child-Centered Play Therapy techniques are used allowing for expression, coping skill development, and improvement of social, emotional, and behavioral skills.
