Shelby (she/her) is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor (LCMHCS). She has a B.A. in Psychology with a Social Work minor from North Carolina State University (2013) and an M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a Child and Youth concentration from UNC-Greensboro (2016). Shelby obtained additional certification in Play Therapy from UNC-Charlotte (2021).
Shelby has experience working with children, teens, and adults in a variety of settings. She previously worked to support young adults transitioning out of the foster care system. She has experience working with individuals presenting with depression, anxiety, self-injury, trauma, relational conflict, ADHD, OCD, identity conflicts, LGBTQ+ specific issues, and pregnancy/postpartum. Shelby strives to provide affirming services to individuals in the LGBTQIA+ community. She provides Child Centered Play Therapy for children as young as 3 years old as well as parent focused consultations to address emotional, behavioral, and parenting concerns from the lens of Child-Parent-Relationship-Therapy. Shelby utilizes Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) to assist children and teens who have experienced trauma. She has been intensively trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and incorporates DBT concepts and skills into her work. Additionally, Shelby is training in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) to treat OCD and related disorders.
Shelby aims to create a welcoming, non-judgmental space to support clients on their journey to healing, empowerment, and self-acceptance. She utilizes DBT, mindfulness, inner child healing, and Person Centered/Humanistic theories to support her practice and to ensure that she is honoring each client’s individual needs within the therapeutic relationship.
